Congratulations to Chester for a dedicated, 28-year-long career with South Coast Lumber, primarily in our planer department!

Chester has worked in the wood products industry for 50 years. He started out pulling lumber off the chain, then moved into a lumber grading position, which he spent most of his career doing. Chester moved into a supervisory role when we added a swing shift at South Coast Lumber. His kindness and generosity are commendable. For example, he would periodically buy his crew lunch out of his own pocket.

An extremely impressive skill Chester has mastered over the years is the ability to visually spot and precisely measure a knot on a 20-foot board of lumber and accurately assess the defect within a sixteenth of an inch. He could also pull planer chain with the best of them well into his late 60s. That’s more than double the average age of the planer crew!

We wish Chester all the best in his next chapter of retirement over in the sunny state of Arizona!
